Lessons and Carols is Coming!

It couldn’t have been a more magical moment last December – we at St. Luke’s had just sung, listened and prayed through a beautiful Advent Service of Lessons and Carols with candlelight and bells, and then we all stepped outside to freshly falling snow! The holiday party in the parish hall, lit by strings of lights and with delicious mulled wine and treats, was just the icing on the cake.
Of course, we can’t promise Advent snow this year. But Lessons and Carols is happening again at 7 p.m. on Thursday December 14, and it will be just as musically beautiful and prayerful as our last two years.

We will again be following the tradition, begun in England in the early 1900s, of alternating carols with lessons from the Bible that tell Je-sus’ story from Genesis through to the Wise Men. The carols themselves will alternate be-tween congregation and choirs, with all three choirs (Chancel, Women’s and Choristers) tak-ing the spotlight. We’ll also have vocal and in-strumental soloists, handbells and chimes.

It’s a thoughtful, profound service that takes us literally and metaphorically from darkness to light; a journey for the soul in lights, words and music which is quite different from the normal Sunday service.

And as usual we will have a parish Christmas party in the hall afterwards, hosted by the choirs! (Though we welcome any offers of help, too.)
Please save the date – and please join us.
Lessons and Carols: 7 p.m. Dec. 14, 2017.
